sockpalOOOza un-update :(

so forgive the blurry photos but i had to post a photo comparison before i rip out the sock... that is what the lace pattern should look like... here is what happened to one of the repeats... see it's gone all wonky...i dunno. don't knit sick/sleepy/anything other than completely there! the first sock came out beautifully...what happened???

rip is the word of the day

so i had been working on this: my so called scarf and it was all wobbly on the edges and i didn't like the way it was turning out so... i really love this yarn i'll have to think of what i can do with it now...i have three balls (about 250 yards all together. noy much i know but its bulky weight so maybe it will work for something...i'll have to brainstorm. so i've been a little down about knitting and not looking forward to knitting anything and wanting to cast on for something new...and i decided i would just hurry up and finish shirley's mittens. so i decided to cast on. and i have been working right along. they'd be really cute...if shirley had 2 left hands doh. so i ripped back to just before the thumb gussett... thats almost to the ribbing oh well i guess maybe they will go more quickly this time since i'm more familiar with the pattern now...i mean it took forever the first time writing it all up as i went. so we shall see :) keep your fingers cross

alpaca!

so my mom, dave, and i went to the alpaca extravaganza in longmont today. and no i'm sorry, i don't have photos. but i did get so see my mom making kissy faces with one of the sweet super soft beasties! of course they all seemed to run away from dave. i don't know why. maybe they thought his baldness was contagious? whatever it was they put their ears back or just ran away :) and guess what. i didn't even buy anything! i looked but didn't find anything i couldn't live without. however, dave showed interest in raising alpacas...i know i should be extatic. but really, i'm just confused! we went snowboarding at beaver creek yesterday. or i tried to. i wasn't feeling well and ended up sitting out the day. and i have to say, i think i shouldn't knit when i feel bad...i tried to cast on and starrt on my second sockpaloooza sock, i finished about an inch and a half, and the lace pattern came out all crooked so i'll have to rip them out. i ju

one sock down

and one to go. here's the first sock completed. i really like the way it turned out! except for that little hole where i turned the heel. i sewed that up as soon as i saw it in the photo. the knitpicks is really soft and i love the way the colors turned out. who knew koolaid could be so cool? ok. i'm sorry thats what you get for letting me knit late at night :) here's a closeup of the stitch pattern. it's much smoother without the purl rows. definately happy with the way it turned out. can't wait to make the other! edit: the pattern is lacy scallop socks by sock bug with several changes: i didn't do the decreases halfway down the leg, and i just moved stitches forward to work a short row heel (instead of heel flap) on only 33 stitches. then scooted the stitches back to the front to work the foot. for the toe i did decrease rows every other row for an inch then every row until i had the same number of stitches that i had when i stopped doing short rows on th

so before the good news, th esorta bad. i got my quantum test back. i got a 34...the kid next to me got a 38, (i saw, not supposed t look but i couldn't help it), and some other guy got a 64. in theory most of the grades are between upper 30's to mid 50's so its not th eend of the world. an dhe said we're all gonna pass...its just kinda disheartening to ge th elowest grade in the class...even if there are only 11 of us. on to bette rnews. i ripped out the heel flap that i made before, i've never liked the heel flap with picked up stitches route. i'm terrible at picking up stitches and itnever looks right when i make a sock that way... but i figured i'd try it...but it never looks right...and it didn't this time, so i ripped. again, and i decided to go back to the old standby. shortrow heel. i'm 2 repeats into the instep and things are going well. i panicked shortly when i thought i might not have enough yarn then i realized that koigu is on

Happy Birthday to me :)

sockpalOOOza update

so i stopped by the stitchin den the other day to say hi to sue , and for one found out that they are closing their doors to move to estes. crummy huh? i have to find a new yarn shop to hang out at. and sue has to find a new job. lame. i also found this reinforcing yarn, could i have dyed a better match? i don't think so!!! i also splurged a little. i picked up a dale pattern book, and the winter '03 IK. i've been eyeing one of the sweater patterns in it for a while. naughty naughty. i don't have time for more patterns... anyway. i was just going to start on the heel, when i decided to try on the sock to see how it was coming along, see it looked a little small...but i wasn't sure, i've been warned several times about cankles... and it was too small it nearly ripped when i tried to pull it past my heel. so i had to rip back to the ound of decreases (about halfway back...) to here, can you believe it? all that beautiful progress. ripped back to here. i did thi

Ten Top Trivia Tips about Lesley! You should always store lesley in an airtight container in the fridge. Lesley can sleep for three and a half years. Lesley can remain conscious for fifteen to twenty seconds after being decapitated! The deepest part of lesley is over 35,000 feet deep. If you put a drop of liquor on lesley, she will go mad and sting herself to death. Lesley can give birth ten days after being born, and is born pregnant. It took lesley 22 years to build the Taj Mahal! In the Spanish edition of Cluedo, lesley is the victim. Moles are able to tunnel through 300 feet of lesley in a day. vanity takes a back seat...

for the sake of my sanity. dave's been after me for weeks to go to the doctor. see i have been getting these terrible headaches. every afternoon. i do homework in the afternoon, i just figured i was allergic. then i thought about it. i get headaches when i knit too. really bad one last night while i was working on the socks on size zeroes...so i dug out my reading glasses tonight, i've knit 2 pattern repeats and amazing thing, no headache. i guess the glasses are here to stay i could get away without them before :( oh well. i guess i'm getting old. good thing is the glasses match the yarn :)

hmmm...

so i need a little advice. i'm always nervous when start a pair of socks...see the sock is 8 inches around at the leg...my sock pal has an 9 inch circumference toebox...am i in trouble? i mean are they big enough theres a fair amount of stretch...cause i'd hate to make hugenormous socks...or tiny feet amoutating socks... i've got a few pair that just stand out around my leg and i hate that....hmm. whadda ya think?

update

ok, i have to go to sleep i just had to share a photo of the first pattern repeat. i love this its great :) i'm not doing the purl rows, all knit all the time! i want to make a smoother sock, i think the purl rows would be bumpy. i think it willl be more comfortable this way. and whats the point if you can't wear them???

sock on needles!

so since no one offered to help me wind the yarn i did it myself, the old fashioed way. i hung the skein across the no parking sign us uually use to hang up my coat, and wound it off...very slowly. but the ball turned out ok and i cast on instead of doing my homework tonight :) isnt the color neat! i just can't get over it! and check out that picot edge! not bad for my first ever provisional cast on and picot hem. woo hoo. having so much fun!!!

sorry in advance

so i got the computer back from kentucky. did you know thats where they send computers to get a new soul. and i have a ton of photos to post, i was in withdrawls i think. anyway, enjoy :)

hand warmers

so i've finished the first one heres the palm and a little unveiling and the top, i have to find a cute button for these!!! ps shirley loves it, now i just have to make the other one!!!

kooliad dying

so if you want to get strange looks at the grocery store... no we're not cooking up strange new drugs. we're sugaring ourselves and preparing to dye yarn! knitpicks dye your own sock yarn. we decided to practice on our skeins before attempting to dye the yarn for my sock pal. and we decided that the color would not be dark enough if we went with the prescribed 1 packet per ounce... so we wnet back to the store to get more koolaid and for more strange looks (at this point we're up to 56 packs total) now thats more like it, much better color. and its so neat to see the different colors available! 2 completely different blues :) and with a little more foresight we would have realized the dish we were using was not going to fit in the microwave... ok a little reorganization and we're ready to go! and didn't it turn out gorgeous! i'm keeping this one! shirley decided to do purple red and orange, isn't it wierd the purple looks black on the yarn (shirley and i

stay tuned!

for the dying extravaganza to follow. shirley are going to stain ourselves, our clothes, and my kitchen every shade of the rainbow dying sock yarn tonight. can you think of a better way to spend a friday?

tooooooooosday

so tuesday is pint night at the walnut in boulder. and on wednesday's my quantum homework is usually due. so...i did a ton of work today trying to finish homework. an dmy brain melted so further coherence has been ruled out. :) i had lab this morning. and we set up an experiment thats supposed to test experimentally the concept of fourier interference. if you're felling a little confused you're not the only one. i was totally lost but after 4 hours of playing with a laser, and a bunch of lenses, and a slide with a tiny picture of a horse we were able to flip the little picture of the horse onth wall upside down and backwards... isn't that great??? yeah anyway. that was my day. oh and then after 5 hours of homework one of the girls and i went for a beer. :) and now i'm thinking i'll knit. but that was my day! somebody remind me again why i'm studying physics??? oh yeah cause i'm almost done...right...93 days and counting... SockpalOOOza though

sockpalOOOza

so i've ordered my yarn, and its not here yet. i chose the free shipping method. ugh. i've chased 2 fedex trucks down the street already. i'm starting to understand the dog's hatred for those trucks. anyway. the knitpicks wool of the andes dye your own is on the way. now i have a question for you. i'm gonna dye this stuff and i'm having a terrible time choosing the colors! they have samples of the colors on yarn in this article from knitty . its at the bottom of the page. take a look and tell me what you think! i'm planning to do half the hank in one half in the other so it will pseudo stripe but you know its hard to tell what will happen when its knit so just pick your favorite combo! thanks for your input :) what color should i dye my sockpalOOOza socks? grape / switchin secret black cherry / grape changin cherry / blue moon berry Free polls from Pollhost.com oh, and i've sent a teaser email to my sock pal. so exciting! and i've been getting c

dave

so i've had several people ask and i guess i'll just get this over with. dave and i did get back together just before christmas. we weren't talking about it at first. mostly because i didn't want to, i wasn't sure... you know how it goes. anyway. and no i didn't make him crawl on the floor begging and groveling etc. but we're happy. so there i said it. whew. and for those of you who always wondered what he looked like...this isn't recent but how much do people change in looks once they're adults. i mean guys hell we girls change our hair once a week sometimes. but anyway. this is dave. hiking in rocky mountain park, fourth of july 2 years ago. i'm gonna get in so much trouble for posting this ;) and heres the stupid question that i never bothered to ask him but now i'm wondering. is our anniversary the new one or the old one??? hmmm. anyway school soon, ice skating tonight, snowboarding tomorrow. busy day i'd better get to it :)

FO report

yet another belated FO report these are the twisted rib socks that i made on my trip to texas to visit dad and family over christmas holiday. i never got around to posting a photo, actualy never gotto take the photo til a couple days ago. i wore them once, tossed them into the laundry pile and when the wash was done there was only one sock i was so upset. see the washer sometimes steals things i'm convinced of it. but i finaly did find the second sock. whew. way worse than second sock syndrome, it would have been third socksyndrome!!! so here they are sockotta sock yarn knit on 2 circs (addi #1) i used the hourglass heel and made up the rest!!!

i'm an idiot!

so i was trying to take a photo of the hooded sweater that i've been making for my mom...but someone wanted to see what the camera thingy was all about...i've only had it 3 years oh well... for those of you who don't know this is neige anyway heres the latest photo of the sweater i've been ignoring it. rather i've been hiding from it. see i thought of this great idea. i wouldn't make it in pieces and seam later i would just knit the whole thing up in the round super easy right? well just after the pocket on the front i was supposed to start on the button placket for the front...do you see a button placket??? d'oh. and another thing, see, its supposed a drop sleeve sweater...and i never left a hole for the arms...do you see where i'm going with this? i'm gonna have to rip out like 4 inches of this i'm such an idiot!!! so i haven't worked on it lately i've been working on these instead i wanted to take some progress sphotos but i've bee
