finished objects for tuesday!

well i've been knitting as much as 9 straight days at work allows. and i have a few updates to share. i absolutely flew through these socks for my sockpalooza 4 pal. they were so fun to knit and i think they look rather elegant in green. its just perfect that the only place with good natural light for photographs is my plant shelf ;) a few details for you: pattern: starting point - baudelaire variations: knit toe up using my usual toe, i cast on more stitches, used a short row heel, and continued cable through extended 2x2 ribbing at top. yarn: dale baby ull in deep green needles: 2 knitpicks circs - zero's for foot and lower leg, one's for upper leg see that nifty fossilized shell on the shelf. no idea where i picked it up or when but it stretches knitting nicely for stitchy closeup ;) oh and if that comment about the cable in th erib made no sense...here's what i meant. i'd also like to share my first completed hogwarts sock in hufflepuff colors. drumroll ple

hufflepuff socks in progress

i'm finally getting around to posting progress on my hogwarts sock swap socks. i had to be at work at 5 this morning and just got back. ugh. really. don't get me started. anyhoo. i'm having tons of fun with these socks. it is my first attempt at colorwork or stranding of any kind and its turning out great if i do say so myself. i read up on some tutorials i'm not twisting my strands or anything i keep telling myself "yellow go high, black go low" i keep saying it in my head along with "yellow yellow black black yellow black. ok. repeat." i feel like a nut and dave absolutely cannot interrupt or i have to tink out a whole row. ack! i always (unless i absolutely have to and then i cry) knit two socks at once on two circulars. and thats how i was doing these until i gott ot the colorwork and then i decided that 4 balls of yarn 2 sets of needles and 2 socks in inverted colors were toooo much for my poor little brain so as you can see i stopped the mostl

negative progress.

:P and that's how i feel about that. i frogged the leg of my sockpalooza socks today. i realizedthat there wasn't enough ease in the leg for her heel t fit through. duh. and i hadn't tried the socks on because they're way too teeny to fit me so why would i right? i mean the foot is too short and too narrow for my big old feet. so how could i right? should have tried. anyhoo. back to the top of the heel. adding a few stitches and going up a needle. bah humbug!

i think i'm in love...

you know what i mean. crazy happy head over heels. that kind of love. like when you meet someone and you wish you'd saved your V-card. perfect. smart. and does all the work for you. i know you think i'm nuts... but oh my god i love love love my *new dyson . the house is clean. like as in crazy clean. i already vacuumed. twice. and went over the part dave did again. just in case. and all i wanna do is vacuum the floors. again. *and by new you realize i mean we got the floor model at 10% off with a 20% off coupon right? k just checkin. god i love a good deal ;)

as requested...

here are a few more detailed photos of those socks from the other day ;) if more photos are requested you might just have a problem there will be no comments from the peanut gallery about the shade of my legs or of the tile. understood?

thigh high

not to be confused with sky high. a truly terrible movie. but that, is beside the point. i promised to tell you about the socks i'm knitting for a friend. ok pick yourself up. yes i'm knitting thigh high socks for a friend but its ok. no i haven't suffered some kind of head injury. well not another one at least. and that is healing rather nicely i think. i haven't had a headache all day :) so anyway. the socks. so far that is. i think they would be knee high by now. on her. but i need updated measurements. no i doubt she's growing. i think i may have made an error. me? an error? i know. anyhoo. outside of right leg inside of the same and the back. \ i know it's hard to see the increases on the back. here is this better? i decided that the increases made the most sense this way. and cathi and i decided how i chould do the increases for the thigh and i promptly forgot. damn. will have to ask for further assistance i guess. the yarn is kona superwash sport. a rar

sockpalooza begins

i know i know the whole thing got going a while ago. what can i say i'm a bit slow on the starting block sometimes. what do you think so far? fascinating i know. stockinette ;) oh. you want to see the top of the sock. ok. if you insist. baudelaire. i always thought that these socks would look fantastic in green and here's my chance. i know i said i wanted to dye some yarn for this exchange and i still may for a bit of a treat to go in the package. but i wanted to pick an interesting pattern and i hated to have the colors detract from tha tyou know? i've been knitting so many multi colored socks lately i guess i just needed a break :) i started this post yesterday and got called in to work so i didn't get to finish and i've been knitting a bit here and there since i started and wow! they are knitting up so incredibly fast. i had no idea socks could be this quick. i guess it helps that my pal has teensy feet (compared to me that is) can you believe it. i'm rea

laundry

i've almost convinced dave to wash his handknit socks on gentle cycle. but we shall see. thank god for superwash huh? at least he washes my socks on gentle. more often than not though i just do the laundry ;) whew. i'd hate to destroy these guys. thats right it's finally time to reveal all those socks you've heard so much about :) and have been bugging me to post about. from left to right: simple socks. handpainted dale baby ull in 2x2 rib. knit on 2 knitpicks size 1 circ's. for these i chose a reverse heel flap a'la widdershins with minor changes for gauge. cast on 4/27, cast off 5/2/07. i do love the colors if i do say so myself. thankd again jenifer for teaching me to dye. i highly reccomend going the baby ull route. it is sooo so soft afterdying. as if it weren't to start with right? trekking socks #2. variation on interweave's embossed leaves. knit on2 sets of addi size 0's. knit toe up with a short row heel until i ran out of yarn. c

extra extra!

late eddition to announce i have completed the handpaint baby ull socks. 5 days on the needles! other than my sockwars socks i think that must be a record. i know i know i should be working on the exchange socks. but i still don't have half my hogwarts yarn and i have yet to decide on a pattern (or dye or choose yarn for sockpalooza.)

date ups

(thats side down upways "updates" for those of you with out a concussion) and i don't think i actually have a concussion. but my head really hurts and i'm kinda dizzy and get nauseous when i try to turn my head or walk around and stuff...lets just say i highy unreccomend reading before bed. especially if you keep harry potter in a nice safe place like on the bedside table. cause you could (if you have gravity issues like me) reach for your book to read before bed, fall off the bed and smack your head (right between the eyes) on the wastebasket between the bed and the bedside table. and if you read before bed and had such a silly thing happen to you then if were lucky a dave might magically appear to bring you frozen mixed stir fry vegetables to ice your face. unfortunately i'm sporting a couple of faint shiners (that ice wasn't quite fast enough) and have a kinda turvey topy head right now. in knitting news i have a hogwarts update. we've decided on the re
