finished socks

i'd like to report 2 completed pair of socks. daves socks are done. 72 hours on the needles thank you very much. he has them. they fit. he litkes them. but they pinch his toes...what??? socks stretch. they give and handknit socks mold to your feel. he is insane and we will leave it at that! oh and you'll have to believe me that they are done because once again i have gifted socks sans photographic proof. damn! shirleys socks are done. she loves them. they fit. they do not pinch her toes. they do however tickle. i have no idea what that means. but i will post photos tomorrow. its late, i'm sleepy and want to crash. but i will update tomorrow :) edit: so i know its not tomorrow but i sdo have sock photos for you :) so please be kind. i'm only a couple days late . someone was awfully interested in having hers and bunny's photographs taken. while i tried to ge tthe socks...sigh. who knew the dog is an attention hog and...she wants her toys in on the action! there.

space science and a little silliness {closed}

so i was reading some online news and look what i found! you've got to read this its about pluto . so my question is. what happens to the rhyme that kids use to memorize the order? i mean hello! My Very Ecellent Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas... just doesn't have the same ring without the pizzas does it? oh well. so i have a proposition . no no silly no tthat kind of proposition. dave would get mad! or at least i hope he would... anyhoo. come up with your own rhyme to help kids memorize the order. the sillier the better, and the winner will get something fabulous from my stash. wow. i've never had a contest before this is kinda fun! i guess i have to figure out a way to pick the winner. hmm. ok all entries that include the beginning letter of all the currently accepted planets and usues them in order will go into a hat. not the actual people who enter. thats a big hat. but all their entries :) and a random draw shall decide ok? enter as many times as you like. and have
and i had promised a photo of the silly hat once it was felted well here it is...is it cold yet i wanna wear this!
and once again its time for an update i'm kntting to fast for my photos to keep up. my nephews unfelted slippers. ya know the kid sizes go soooo fast! and i've started a couple pair for 2 of my mom's good friends. they really are sweethearts. pink and purple and a green blue pair i hadn't updated shirely's socks lately so here they are! i had to rip out the leg. go figure, jaywalkers too tight. who knew! but they are getting there! i also cast on for a pair for mom. this is the fuzzy stuff by mango moon. i guess you're supposed to carry it with their fancy yarns...i just decided to experiment i also cast on for another pair of sockotta socks for me. of course andlast but not least. super secret socks. shhhh.

knittaversary

is that a word? well it should be. can you believe i've been knitting for 2 years. i have only one person to thank for my wonderful hobby, not thatsnot right i think obsession describes it better. my mom's dear friend from red hat said she would teach me when i had a friend ask for a scarf but he didn't want it crocheted because crochet is so lumpy and he didn't want it to look like one of those "crusty hippee scarves" he was always seeing in the umc. his words people don't kill the reteller of funny stories ok? i learned to knit, to purl, to cast on and off and ly first ever knitted object was a basketweave scarf. i just had to share. ok. i'm off to work on the funky scarf swap scarf now. the question is now that the shirts are all cut up into strips (photos later) do i have enough fabric to knit the scarf???

trip stuff

i realized i let my trip blog slide with the move and job hunt nonsense thats been going on. i'm going to try to post a few photos every day for a while to let you see how fabulous the vacation was. i apologize for my tardiness. check the trip link in the galleries section to your left

old sky

so we've been sharing skies right? i was just going through some old photos nad i had to share this new mexico sky from last october... dave knows this and i guess you guys should too. i have this thing for a long straight road with nothing to see but earth and sky...who knew? i'm a plains girl

funky scarf update!

so i have to share. i've decided on my scarf pal's scarf! she said she mostly likes natural fibers. wanted something warm, and fun but also functional. go figure. thats exactly what i woud like. as would most people! so i have picked up several fantastic silk shirts at local thrift stores. i'm going to give them a wash, cut them into strips, tie them end to end and knit the worlds softest luxury rag scarf in history! it will be warrm. but not bulky or heavy. it will have interesting texture and will definately be one f a kind!!! i am sooooo excited. i have to go to one more store tomorrow they are having a 50% off sale so i can pick up a couple more colors and then i will take photos of the process. yippeee. can not wait!

wow, i can't believe that i've never done a meme before today

its official and help!!!

i have a new address. a whole lot of unpacked boxes. a confused dog. and a lot of aching muscles. the move went off without a hitch (well almost). and the internet is up and running. well at least in one room. can't find the friggin router...sigh. of course i couldn't find my monitor til today so that isn't saying much. i found th ein progress socks i was making for shirley but need her to try 'em on before i do too much more. and somebody put my yarn in the top of the closet and then filled the closet with boxes so i can't get to it :(. anyhoo. i'll be starting a funky scarf as soon as i can find some inspiration. sigh. i've been enjoying theses fantastic storms and whatnot that roll in over the plains. so i'm thinking lightning or clouds would be neat but i can't think how to knit that. intarsia? i don't think so i only have til october. and i'd love to make a really long sock for my scarf pal. i think it would be funny.

funky scarf swap questionnaire

whew. say that five times fast! ok, i'm supposed to answer these questions so here goes: Let’s get the allergy part out of the way. Are you allergic to any fibers? no i don't have any fiber allergies, but i don't do all so well with cat hair so if you could keep the kitties out of the scarf i would appreciate it :) Do you prefer any fibers over others? wow, hmm. do i prefer any kind of fibers? of course, who doesn't? but i'd rather you got creative :) but if you insist on input, i love soft fluffy yarns. interesting textures and colors. otherwise i'm not all that picky. although, fun fur etc is not my favorite. Thinking back to Scout’s post about what funky means to you, post an image of something that you think is funky! post a picture huh...hang on a sec. dang i can't find any photos of me when i had blue, purple or popcicle red hair... and i don't know that anything really strikes me as particularly funky. i just like unusual things. i've pe

a few things about moving...

at 4 in the morning a tape gun sounds like mice on pogo sticks... there is always another closet you haven't even looked in let alone packed... the new stairs are steeper than the old ones... the dog/cat is always on the stairs when you are carrying something heavy... no matter how many times you tell it the same dog/cat thinks it is being left behind... there is not enough caffeine in the world to make it ok to hear mice on pogo sticks at 4 am...
so i decided to follow someone's example. thursday sky! and because i have an infinite aount of free time... i decided to join the funky scarf swap . we all know i like silly things so this should be fun!

moving sucks!

ok so we move in 8 days. and i'm not done packing...i have however rearranged my stash in its bins and taped the bins shut. everything is sort of sorted by fiber or type or whatever except for what wouldnt fit. you know how it goes. the good news even my wip are packed, so i can't knit. so now i have nothing to distract me right? wrong. i'm here blogging about not packing. and i'm reading blogs. sigh...k. i'm gonna go pack some clothes or something.

miscelaneous

since i am unemployed until firther notice and not allowed to shop i have to share this little tidbit. log cabin quilts on hwy 42 aka 95th street in lafayette is closing down. it took all the willpower i had to keep on driving when i passed today but someone ought to take advantage of the sales. oh and i noticed the other day that smiley's has cotton ease for those who didn't get their fill from the local craft stores last summer. thought i would share. k i'm done. forgive me. i'm gonna go shop in my stash for something new to knit now. ps. i did go and exchange a ball of sock yarn at shutles today. and i only went over by $4 with my bargain bin cascade 220 and brown sheep. see i had to find coordinating colors. i like the silly hat(see below) so much that i have to make a coordinating pair of felted mittens...but i used odd balls and leftovers for the hat so i had to try and recreate the odd balls. thank goodness for shuttles having every color imaginable. i doubt

here i am again!

ok so i have a couple of updates to share with you. in between packing, having a fairly successful garage sale, and giving up on looking for work until after we move (out by the airport for those who care) i have been knitting a bit in hopes of changing the weather...see it cooled down yesterday. it was bearable even alas i don't think i can change the weather, but ok so i have a couple of updates to share with you. this way maybe i will be prepared once it gets to be winter again. no its not finished it needs felting and maybe tassels i can't decide. and no it actually does look sillier in person. see i've been knitting all this wool. the silly hat the everest vest (still in progress no update photos sorry) and i've made a bunch of clogs lately for friends and family so i decided it was time for my own. not that i will wear them til its cold out but ya know. i'm ready at least! yes those are toenails and checkout the bottoms! i'll have felted photos soon, they
