leggy

remember these ? well i've been getting a lot of flack lately for not finishing these. and then for not posting about these guys. girls. whatever you wanna call 'em. the thigh highs. yes. they go all the way up. ;) well after completion i gave them a bath. like the high tech knitting bathtub? unfortunately the dye bled a little on these. i'm not sure why. they didn't bleed when i rinsed the yarn after dying. does eucalan normally do that? anyhoo. they got blocked. to the appropriate length. very tidy see ;P i was so over it at this point. tidy blocking out the window. just get it done! and i found two different ribbons that coordinated fairly well i think. of course dave doesn't understand why the socks don't have matching ribbons... boys. goose! i have another piece cut in each color. i'm just not sure which the recipient would prefer... arty photos now :) girly things steamer trunk. and the laundry line version sock specs recipient: dearest pixy* yarn: s

finished!

well almost! i haven't woven in all those ends but they are cast off. finally. and they fit and i'm ecstatic. now bring on the snow! oh and in case you were wondering...the colors are pretty true there and if you're not sure. yes i have a sunburn. and my pants are orange. the socks are plum, mustard, olive, and magenta. i have no color sense i know. dave pointed this out today when i wore the same orange pants with a green shirt and blue socks today with my grey hiking shoes. sigh. as if anything really ever goes with orange. isn't that the point? anyhoo. sock specs. yarn: dale of norway falk almost 5 balls. needles: knitpicks options size ones . cast on: ages ago cast off: five minutes ago. recipient my future self. ( i have to wait to wear these till we are in the presence of snow) ok i'm gonna go work on mom's monkey's (the legs are about half done or more) and finish watching corpse bride . something to ponder...what if tim burton had don

sock week continues

remember these guys? i started them forever ago. shirley got me the yarn for my birthday 2 years ago... well they'd been crammed in with some other unfinished (possibly indefinitely abandoned) projects in a knitting bag i never use. i found them last week and figured what the hell :) i've finished the last green stripe now and am working on the ribbing. and see those scissors? you know what that means. there are about a million ends to weave in. you know how i hate finishing. yuck! i can't wait to go someplace cold to wear them. remember that conversation we had about worsted weight socks and how i couldn't wear them down here? well these too are made from dale of norway's falk. sigh. can we get some snow down here? i'm sure it wouldn't hurt the palm trees :)

harry potter (don't worry no spoilers here)

me, my wristband, my book 7 temporary tattoo, and of course the book :) i'd never been to a midnight party before and seeing as it was the last chance, we decided to go. you had to wait in line for a wristband to buy the book, and then again to buy the book once they called your dot color...that blue dot meant i was in the fourth group. 300 people got the book before me! now i'm a fairly patient person. but 2 lines? three if you count the 45 minutes i had to wait at the cafe for coffee...sigh. at least we were at a book store. plenty of activities were planned and there was an endless supply of books to peruse. but dave got a little bored. and cranky. oh well. we did the math to decide how much the store made by staying open late... holy cow! i mean we left with harry potter, a membership card and 4 other books. and we're going back for others we saw we wanted. i mean they have the feynman lectures in a boxed set! and the ember series, the golden copmass . gos

sssstrrrrrreeeetttch

mega boots stretch that is. check out my yarny mousey! isn't he twee! ok i've officially lost my mind. but that is ok. right? no reason to panic. pair number 3 on the needles right now is obviously not getting the love numbers 1 and 2 are. sorry mousey. but thats kinda how i feel about the socks. the yarn halos. it's soft and is squishy. don't get me wrong they're knitting up into beautiful socks. just not fabulous. not wonderful. just socks. i'm using a variation on the lacy scallop sock stitch pattern that i used for my sockpaloooza socks. i figured it would do the blues justice. kinda look like waves? yes no? i need some opinions here. i hated to go with straight stockinette because well it would bore me to tears but honestly. what do you think? do i frog? oh and i've just realized...there are 2 more pair of socks i forgot to mention...we're extending the series for 2 more episodes people! post edit: sigh. jsut wasn't loving these they've bee

we interrupt the regularly scheduled socky program

to bring you the hogwarts sock swap two questionnaire. (go check it out and join its going to be oodles of fun.) yes i'm a glutton for punishment and i'm going in for round two. but round one was so much fun. and now, i'm a second year. and i agree with ron. the first years are teeny. haha. ok. down to business. the questions What Hogwarts house have you been sorted into? I'm in ravenclaw again silly. and no i don't know if i would prefer book or movie colors i'm awaiting round 1 socks to decide. whatever i receive, i'll go opposite for round two. i have to round out my socky wardrobe you know :) Shoe size? Foot length? Foot circumference? shoe size womens us 9.5 european 39 (or thats what it says in my dansko's i'd think they would know. foot length 9.75 inches (with a desided sock length 9.5) toebox circumference 8.25 inches. ankle circumference 8.5 inches List your three favorite sock yarns. ohhhh i only get to pick 3? hmmmm. a.

bam!

boo! ok i'm a dork. but you knew that right? sock pair # 2 on the needles right now are made from the regia bamboo i picked up in rothenburg last summer. and i love love love this yarn! sheen. bright vivid colors. excellent stitch definition... see ok so i got a little carried away with the camera. get over it. they're pretty. i'm loving the pattern. mock croc socks off knitpicks. free. pattern. what more can you ask for? and i know alligators and crocodiles are different beasties but i figured close enough and it is florida for crissakes :) oh you want to actually see the socks. well ok if you insist. isn't that what your knitting looks like when it has been abandoned for other less interesting things? crumpled. dejected. lonely. does it perk up when it knows you are coming? mine does. and no one is going to try and tell me differently! i just have to draw your attention to that perfect hourglass heel. i think this one has turned out nicer than any of the others so f

monkeying around

you may just remember this yarn i dyed last whenever with jenifer. well i've finally found the perfect pattern to show it off! thats right cookie's monkey socks. yes i know everyone is knitting these. but it really does show off the colors and gradations perfectly and of course no sock pattern is perfect in my eye so i've made a couple of changes...notice the lack of purl stitches. much cleaner this way i think. and i made the lace repeat taller/wider by adding another set of yo's and decreases and these socks are flying. but what socks don't really? i'm having oodles of fun and i'm sure mom will love them. 2 pair of socks for mom in one week you ask? well i dyed the yarn especially for her so it seems mean to keep it for myself. but i am in love with this treadsoft. from catnip. go get some. the bounce is wonderful. the sheen loverly. the knit fabric feels like it has elastic. its superwash. nice and tidy 8.5-9 stitches to the inch so it makes

finished socks

ok so i know i dropped off the planet ofr a little while. but here is evidence that it was time well spent :) these are for my mom. that's why they may look a little big. she has bigger feet than me. whew. dodged that bullet. gotta love genetics eh? i mean i have big feet. i'm not gonna lie. but hers are bigger ;) i wanted to make them for myself. i love that heathery oatmeal color but do i really need worsted weight wool socks? in florida? no. happy thanksgiving mom :) they were a fun knit. and very quick. and check out my very first eye of partridge heel not bad if i do say so myself. they were knit toe up on addi size one circs. the yarn is dale falk. 3 balls. i used all but a yard i think. and the cable is adapted from one of the ones in the vogue cables book. sort of vauge, i know. and i made notes. but have misplaced my notebook temporarily. lucky i'm not planning to start any new socks eh? i've been fascinated lately by cables that disappear into stockinette

hogwarts sock swap (year 1)

yup. thats right i've sent off my swap package for hogwarts sock swap ...unfortunately via muggle post. sigh. have i ever told you how much i hate the post office? apparently the box i was recycling from starbucks wasn't good enough and i had to repack the goodies at the post office into a priortiy box at wich point they couldn't find me any tape so they made me use the priority mail tape but i couldn't tape up the box the guy did it for me so he went around the box 3 different ways. he taped my scribbled address onto the box from my notes sheet. wouldn't le tme go get alabe or anything and half the address got covered by priority mail tape but its fine...what? anyhoo. i hoep it gets where it is supposed to go. i'll be blogstalking to make sure it does :) what was in said oddly taped package you say? well... socks of course. bertie botts. plus regular and sour flavored beans. some dark chocolate for the witch or wizard with more evil tastes. cow tal
