we interrupt the regularly scheduled socky program

to bring you the hogwarts sock swap two questionnaire.
(go check it out and join its going to be oodles of fun.)

yes i'm a glutton for punishment and i'm going in for round two.
but round one was so much fun.
and now, i'm a second year.
and i agree with ron.
the first years are teeny.
haha.
ok.
down to business.

the questions
  1. What Hogwarts house have you been sorted into?
I'm in ravenclaw again silly. and no i don't know if i would prefer book or movie colors i'm awaiting round 1 socks to decide. whatever i receive, i'll go opposite for round two. i have to round out my socky wardrobe you know :)
  1. Shoe size? Foot length? Foot circumference?
shoe size womens us 9.5 european 39 (or thats what it says in my dansko's i'd think they would know. foot length 9.75 inches (with a desided sock length 9.5) toebox circumference 8.25 inches. ankle circumference 8.5 inches
  1. List your three favorite sock yarns.
ohhhh i only get to pick 3? hmmmm.

      a. crystal palace panda cotton or panda wool. i've recently discovered these and they're neat. oh and while we're on bamboo. regia bamboo is wonderful stuff :)

      b. regia/sockotta/lanna grossa cotton blend sock yarns including stretch varieties

      c. and of course the old standbys. trekking, lornas, etc. but i'm also a huge fan of simple single tone quality superwash sock wools. i also like to use dale baby ull for socks i think it works great!

can i repeat superwash for any and all sock yarn choices? this is the most important part :)

  1. Would you like to try a new brand of sock yarn? If so, which brand?
i'm always up for something new.
surprise me.
i'll be happy.
go with a favorite.
i'll be happy
:)
  1. Do you prefer variegated or solid sock yarn?
hmmm. i go for variagated yarns a lot they're just so pretty in the ball. but i also love solids. thats what i've been buying the most of lately. i also handpaint a lot of my own so i hate to spend the money for what i can do for myself. ya know?
  1. What colors would you like to add to your sock yarn stash?
i love greens and blues. purples are always a safe bet. natural tones are good. but i like bright outlandish colors too. i gravitate to rich colors. pastels are a no go for me. but pinks, reds and oranges are a definite no. i grab a ball occasionally and end up wondering why i did it. how's that for not helpful at all ;)
  1. What kind of sock patterns do you gravitate toward? Lace? Ribbed? Fair Isle?
i like lace it is a good standby. i adore cables and am just now getting into fairisle. the year one hogwarts socks were my first attempt and i think it went smashingly! so go for something interesting that you find appealing and i'll probably go for it. intricate works for me too cause if i'm going to bother to follow a pattern it needs to keep me interested.
  1. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, animals, etc.)
i'm a definite no for smoke and cats make me sneeze but as i don't wear socks on my nose the cat think shouldn't be a problem. but smoke really bugs me.
  1. Will your socks be exposed to cigarette smoke or animals as you knit them?
i have a dog. there will probably be a small amount of dog hair knit in. i'll be honest. its in every project i knit. but its not a lot. she's not a big shedder and doesn't sleep on my knitting.
  1. Are you willing to have an international Hogwarts Sock Pal?
i would love to have an international pal. international majical cooperation and all that ;)

space science and a little silliness {closed}

so i was reading some online news and look what i found! you've got to read this its about pluto . so my question is. what happens to the rhyme that kids use to memorize the order? i mean hello! My Very Ecellent Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas... just doesn't have the same ring without the pizzas does it? oh well. so i have a proposition . no no silly no tthat kind of proposition. dave would get mad! or at least i hope he would... anyhoo. come up with your own rhyme to help kids memorize the order. the sillier the better, and the winner will get something fabulous from my stash. wow. i've never had a contest before this is kinda fun! i guess i have to figure out a way to pick the winner. hmm. ok all entries that include the beginning letter of all the currently accepted planets and usues them in order will go into a hat. not the actual people who enter. thats a big hat. but all their entries :) and a random draw shall decide ok? enter as many times as you like. and have

stick a spoon in these and stir!

lots of sugar in my cappuccino please. or maybe iced. it has been a hot day... i guess as long as it is caffeinated it shouldn't really matter right? i think i deserve it! cause these babies are done! the venezia socks. or cappuccino as i call them. i used the pattern charts and just knit these up. for my second attempt at stranded color work i think they turned out great! if i had it to do over again i would probably have used a different pattern for the sole. the stripe is a little too bold for the swishiness of the instep and leg pattern. but hey. you learn. the specifics: pattern: chart from the venezia sweater by Eunny Jang yarn: sock it to me 4 ply in coffee bean and latte needles: knitpicks harmony circs size 1. socks knit as 2 magic loops simultaneously (these needles are actually growing on me) details: magic cast on 16 stitches in coffee bean, increase at edges on every row to 26 then every other row to 36 stitches. move one stitch from sole of sock(35) to inste
and a last farewell...before i ripped out sunrise circle i took a parting photo...this sweater was jus tnot meant to be. too many other things wanted to be finished first. soon to come the bad penny 2 that i'm making for my trip to italy!
