neat-o!

you know how you can be surfing long on the internet for just hours and you're not really sure how you got where you are but you're there. and you found something so super cool. but you have no idea how you got there. but you did. and it is just so super cool that you have to drop everything and try it right away?

no no, not that kind of experimentation.

knitting. really.

you have to go check out this heel it is the coolest thing i ever saw.
go.
now.
i'll wait.

see?
told ya!

it is this "Y" shaped double short rowed heel thingamabob. it's not that hard to do you just have to take notes so your heels will match ;)
i'm bad with notes but i'll make an effort.

here's what i did:
i had 29 stitches on my heel.
i short rowed down to 17 stitches.
i short rowed back up to 23 stitches.
i short rowed back down to 17 stitches.
then short rowed all the way back up to 29 stitches.

and voila! y shaped heel.

i don't have the leg of these done yet so i can't really judge how the fit will be but it looks comfortable. not as squashed as my usual short row. i can't wait to see what it looks like with sock yarn with actual stitch definition!

and that's not the only thing she has on this blog. i may never "effing kitchener" again.

i think i'm gonna have to knit more stuff just to try these things out.

edit:
so i got a ravelry message and it reminded me how i got to the instructions for this neat method. thanks lucciola :)

I have subscribed to that blog. Looks like there is very good info there.

Thanks for the link.

I think I have one more repeat on sock #1 before I can start decreasing for the toe. Yeah, me!

knitting updates

ok, now for a knitting update :) i know thats what you really wanted to see. here are the contents of the sockpalOOOza package that goes out in one week. i am so excited! counterclockwise from lower left: there is a sock tote for her to use the next time she knits a pair of socks, the socks, postits. my favorite way to mark patterns, a card telling her all about her socks, a postcard of longs peak to show where i'm from, a birthday card fror her to share with a knitting friend on a special day, and stitch markers. yeay! i love presents! i can't wait to mail this! and on to current knitting... so a few weeks ago i went down to highlands ranch for the Littleton meetup, i went next door to string to do a yarn exchange. thats like free yarn you know. and picked up 7 balls of this elsabeth lavold sily wool. ooooh. wonderful yarn! i know, there are only 4 in the photo. thats because my italy cardigain is well under way. 2 balls in i just stared the third and i love love love this y

space science and a little silliness {closed}

so i was reading some online news and look what i found! you've got to read this its about pluto . so my question is. what happens to the rhyme that kids use to memorize the order? i mean hello! My Very Ecellent Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas... just doesn't have the same ring without the pizzas does it? oh well. so i have a proposition . no no silly no tthat kind of proposition. dave would get mad! or at least i hope he would... anyhoo. come up with your own rhyme to help kids memorize the order. the sillier the better, and the winner will get something fabulous from my stash. wow. i've never had a contest before this is kinda fun! i guess i have to figure out a way to pick the winner. hmm. ok all entries that include the beginning letter of all the currently accepted planets and usues them in order will go into a hat. not the actual people who enter. thats a big hat. but all their entries :) and a random draw shall decide ok? enter as many times as you like. and have

so much to do!

with only a few days to relax. a trip to the beach turns into a blur of "i just want to sit here" mixed with "but we have to do this too" so several days worth of photos divided into day parts. cause really it is all running together :) think sandra bullock from that movie premonition where the days are out of order...but nobody's gonna die. sunrise: over the ocean. after waking up early not feeling well from a late night out with the family. i took one for the team ad finished the wine...don't do that. not good. i ran the 2 blocks to the boardwalk and over the dunes to the water to get these couple of shots. seagulls and beachcombers are your only company when it's this early! i've never seen so many mussel shells when it wasn't after dinner. midday: on the boardwalk. after the beach you go to the boardwalk to grab lunch at mack and mancos. apparently the best pizza ever. i'm not convinced. but heck i don't really get the wa
