hogwarts sock swap (year 1)

yup. thats right i've sent off my swap package for hogwarts sock swap ...unfortunately via muggle post. sigh. have i ever told you how much i hate the post office? apparently the box i was recycling from starbucks wasn't good enough and i had to repack the goodies at the post office into a priortiy box at wich point they couldn't find me any tape so they made me use the priority mail tape but i couldn't tape up the box the guy did it for me so he went around the box 3 different ways. he taped my scribbled address onto the box from my notes sheet. wouldn't le tme go get alabe or anything and half the address got covered by priority mail tape but its fine...what? anyhoo. i hoep it gets where it is supposed to go. i'll be blogstalking to make sure it does :) what was in said oddly taped package you say? well... socks of course. bertie botts. plus regular and sour flavored beans. some dark chocolate for the witch or wizard with more evil tastes. cow tal...

finished objects for tuesday!

well i've been knitting as much as 9 straight days at work allows. and i have a few updates to share. i absolutely flew through these socks for my sockpalooza 4 pal. they were so fun to knit and i think they look rather elegant in green. its just perfect that the only place with good natural light for photographs is my plant shelf ;) a few details for you: pattern: starting point - baudelaire variations: knit toe up using my usual toe, i cast on more stitches, used a short row heel, and continued cable through extended 2x2 ribbing at top. yarn: dale baby ull in deep green needles: 2 knitpicks circs - zero's for foot and lower leg, one's for upper leg see that nifty fossilized shell on the shelf. no idea where i picked it up or when but it stretches knitting nicely for stitchy closeup ;) oh and if that comment about the cable in th erib made no sense...here's what i meant. i'd also like to share my first completed hogwarts sock in hufflepuff colors. drumroll ple...

hufflepuff socks in progress

i'm finally getting around to posting progress on my hogwarts sock swap socks. i had to be at work at 5 this morning and just got back. ugh. really. don't get me started. anyhoo. i'm having tons of fun with these socks. it is my first attempt at colorwork or stranding of any kind and its turning out great if i do say so myself. i read up on some tutorials i'm not twisting my strands or anything i keep telling myself "yellow go high, black go low" i keep saying it in my head along with "yellow yellow black black yellow black. ok. repeat." i feel like a nut and dave absolutely cannot interrupt or i have to tink out a whole row. ack! i always (unless i absolutely have to and then i cry) knit two socks at once on two circulars. and thats how i was doing these until i gott ot the colorwork and then i decided that 4 balls of yarn 2 sets of needles and 2 socks in inverted colors were toooo much for my poor little brain so as you can see i stopped the mostl...

extra extra!

late eddition to announce i have completed the handpaint baby ull socks. 5 days on the needles! other than my sockwars socks i think that must be a record. i know i know i should be working on the exchange socks. but i still don't have half my hogwarts yarn and i have yet to decide on a pattern (or dye or choose yarn for sockpalooza.)

date ups

(thats side down upways "updates" for those of you with out a concussion) and i don't think i actually have a concussion. but my head really hurts and i'm kinda dizzy and get nauseous when i try to turn my head or walk around and stuff...lets just say i highy unreccomend reading before bed. especially if you keep harry potter in a nice safe place like on the bedside table. cause you could (if you have gravity issues like me) reach for your book to read before bed, fall off the bed and smack your head (right between the eyes) on the wastebasket between the bed and the bedside table. and if you read before bed and had such a silly thing happen to you then if were lucky a dave might magically appear to bring you frozen mixed stir fry vegetables to ice your face. unfortunately i'm sporting a couple of faint shiners (that ice wasn't quite fast enough) and have a kinda turvey topy head right now. in knitting news i have a hogwarts update. we've decided on the re...

eureka

ok so i know i'm obsessing if i'm still trying to find a solution for the yellow sock yarn delimma but i think i have it... sisu what do you think any takers? i also discovered silja ...what do you think? really have you ever knit with this do yo uknow anyone who has? i'm dying here... need input . i've seen some colerwork socks in this and the lok great. better than my first attemt will i'm sure but anyhoo i just wanted to share. i have the answer and at 5 something a ball i can't go wrong. i just wanted something better than essential and i found it. i hope. :) let me know if you have an opinion :) i'm also thinking its time to knit dave another pair of socks. somehting taller this time since as mom says he's wearing big boy pants now. sigh. he's never gonna live down weraring shorts for 7 straight years of grad school i just know it. so i'm looking at some cottons and some yarns with stretch and i'm just thinking at this poi...

agonizing

dave was really cute yesterday and asked what i was planning to do today (my day off) i'm not really sure was my response (lie lie lie lie lie). i was planning to spend most of the day agonizing over what pattern and yarn to use for my hogwarts socks ! :) you see its a complicated proposition. there are so many patterns that would be absolutely perfect. what? no i'm not planning your basic striped sock. that would be oh so boring. so i spent some time looking for patterns and i think i have it narrowed down to 2. first there are the red herring herringbone socks from knitty. then there are the bakerloo sideways socks from magknits . either one would be perfect for this it has a stripe (sort of) and would accomodate the clashing oh did is say clashing i meant non matchingly bright colors of a hogwarts house :) sorry can you tell i'm knitting for hufflepuff? i think i may be buzzing by the time i finish with black and yellow let me tell you! both patterns are also very diffe...

Harry potter sock swap!

I've decided to join, against better judgement. i've been in a knitting slump and i think this will help me kick it into gear! oh i'm so excited! and it looks like i'm a ravenclaw too! Sort Me! thanks jenifer for posting about the swap :) here are my questionnaire answers: 1. What Hogwarts house have you been sorted into? Ravenclaw 2. Shoe size? US women's size 9 3. Foot Length? about 10 inches 4. Foot Circumference? 8.5 inches 5. List your three favorite double-point needle brands, including size and length i don't have a particular favorite brand, i did like knitting with my brittany's once but my clovers are nice too. i guess wood or bamboo would be best. and i would like sock needls in (0's), (1's), or (2's) and i prefer shorter needles. 6. Would you like to try a new brand needle? ok :) If so, which brand? i have a lot of steel and aluminum dpns already i'd prefer to try something new. Size? Any is fine - I knit hats and armwarmers a...
